Contest morning and what a beautiful day. All the hard work is done and weโ€™re looking forward to our return to North of England Brass Band Championships of Great Britain. Unfortunately weโ€™re a key man down due to illness, wishing you a speedy recovery Andrew (youโ€™ve got Youth Nationals next week!). Thank you to Leathley Farm Shop & Cafe for our amazing breakfast!

Our Band plays on it's stomach!

Butlins Mineworkers Contest

A superb performance of Kenneth Downie Purcell Variations was rewarded with a very admirable 2nd place from the judge Brett Baker. This was our first appearance in the 2nd section and we are more than pleased with the result.

It was a cold weekend!

Starbeck Methodist Church

Last night was very special. Our first indoor concert for 2 years! We had a lovely, warm welcome from Starbeck Methodist Church and thoroughly enjoyed the evening.

National 2nd Section Champions

Wow - what a return to contesting! Needless to say, we are delighted that our hard work has paid off, both in the band room, and at home throughout lockdown. Congratulations to our Principal Cornet player Owen James

Our thanks to everyone at National Brass Band Championships of Great Britain for their commitment to staging the event and for being so helpful on the day.

A game of rounders as we wait for the results

Strange Times

So none of us predicted or could even comprehend how 2020 was going to develop. The band started the year with great successes at Butlins and the Area Brass Band Section 3 Championships, but then everything changed. The effects of Covid-19 have been felt worldwide as well as within our Band family. Although playing has been minimal, we have made every effort to stay connected with the use of trusty zoom. Our priority has always been the safety of our members but we were quickly reminded that Banding isn't just about playing. The benefits gained every week for our members mental wellbeing have never been more noticeable than when this was taken away.

As we come to the end of the year, we are tentatively looking forward to a glimmer of hope. If a successful vaccination program is delivered then we look forward to our return to playing and being a Band again.

2020 Butlins Mineworkers Championships: Third Section

3rd Section Champions

After hours of hard work throughout the Christmas period, we are delighted to have won the 3rd Section at the Butlins Mineworkers Championships 2020. This was our first attempt at competing in the 3rd Section making it even more exciting. Read all about it here:

Sadly, we also said goodbye to our Principal Trombone player and founder member, Emilia who left to concentrate on her A levels. We wish her all the best with her studies and her future playing.

Festive Carols

Carols at Stockeld Park

The Band got into the festive spirit last weekend playing carols at Stockeld Park whilst the crowds waited for Father Christmas to arrive. It was great to receive some lovely comments, such as "A brass band really makes Christmas" as well as seeing the excitement and wonder on the children's faces. We will be at Stockeld Park every Saturday and Sunday from the 30th November: playing from 12-3pm. So be sure to say hello if you see us there!
